Recent Reading

Between book club choices, friend recommendations and random garage sale purchases I've been reading a lot lately. A wide variety keeps it exciting!

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - fabulous! Composed completely of letters between the characters it's a new twist on storytelling. Set after WWII in Europe, fun characters! We're discussing next week at book club.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played with Fire - intriguing, good plot twists! And I always love series because I hate leaving characters behind when a book ends. Hope to read the 3rd book soon!

And right now I'm reading The Pillars of the Earth. Not a new book but popular (perhaps accredited to Oprah adding it to her book club list). It's just shy of 1000 pages - a big undertaking! Set in 12th century England, winding through 20 years of intertwined characters and stories. It's my dad's favorite book of all time and has been recommended by a couple friends so when I saw it at a garage sale for $1, it seemed like a good time to take on the beast. 240 pages in and I'm enjoying it! It's very reminiscent of The Mists of Avalon, a 900+ page book about King Arthur that we had to read for freshman english. Who knows, maybe I'll be equally inspired to take on its sequel!

New Favorite Breakfast

Another food post...what can I say, I'm an eater!

I started buying Chobani yogurt about a month or so ago. It's more than twice the price of my old yogurt but by far the best yogurt ever! It took a little getting used to - it's a bit like eating a bowl of sour cream with fruit in it - super rich and thick! A lot less sweet than Yoplait or some of the others. It's got a lot of protein - more than twice a regular yogurt.

My all-time favorite is the pineapple. Also love the peach and plain. My breakfast every day for the last few weeks has been a Chobani, cut up strawberries or nectarine, a little shredded coconut and a handful of sliced almonds. YUM! My mouth is watering just thinking of it.

Today, for a little more sweetness in my plain yogurt bowl I tossed in a sprinkling of semi-sweet chocolate chips. Nothing like dessert for breakfast.

Last week, as a change of pace and to use up my farmer's market bounty it was vanilla yogurt (way too rich to eat alone - it's like frosting in a bowl), blueberries and gluten free graham crackers. (The crackers are another newish discovery!)

Flying Solo

Ryan's been out of town for work the past few days. I've enjoyed a three day weekend relaxing!

Freshly painted toes and a book on the deck...doesn't get much better than that!

GORGEOUS afternoon!
